Adele G. Michaelides,  MA
Resident Staff Therapist

Adele comes to MAPS Counseling Services with a wide range of experience and interests.  Adele works with adults, children and adolescents, using both brief, solution-focused therapy, as well as long term therapy.  Working with youth, she often uses creative arts and music, combining extensive experience as a voice coach and musician with psychotherapy.   Adele assists children and adolescents in writing their own personal “hit song,” with lyric writing, poetry, rhythm knowledge, and teaching basic skills on guitar and keyboards.

One of Adele’s specialties is working with chronic pain, chronic illness and disability.  She is deeply committed to working with those living with chronic conditions, assisting clients to discover both creative and practical ways of living with disabling, stressful conditions, as well as the depression and heightened anxiety that often accompany illness and pain.   Clients of all physical ability levels can tap into exploring ways of living a rich, full life.   Adele notes, “Despite any diagnosis or disease, loss or great pain – You are whole, you matter, your voice counts… and you are entitled in this world to be treated with respect and dignity.”   A chronic pain patient herself, Adele works closely with clients to help them examine ways to live an empowered life.

Adele is the facilitator of the Cancer Support Group in Peterborough, which meets at Monadnock Community Hospital, every Friday afternoon.  The group focuses on coping skills, total life experience, inner wisdom,  psychoeducation --and even humor – to meet the challenges of cancer and survivorship.   This group often learns by teaching each other breathing and meditation, body-centering and relaxation exercises, offering readings or materials that inspire and lift members emotionally and spiritually.

In addition, Adele also enjoys career/vocational counseling, helping individuals explore unique gifts, interests and life options.

Adele is an animal lover and believes strongly that we gain much healing and insight from the animals in our lives.  She is a Board Eligible National Certified Counselor.
