For more than twenty years
Jan
Manwaring has journeyed with her clients as they struggle with alcohol and other drug addictions and
with life's
problems. She focuses on individuals'
strengths, resiliency, and creativity that can be harnessed to meet
these challenges and to develop new directions in life.
Jan is a clinical social worker, and in addition to
addictions she helps individuals and families wrestle with depression, anxiety, loss, ADHD/ADD or discrimination. Her blend of
solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral, and client-centered theories
help her clients to concentrate on the present as they develop
strategies to cope with issues and problems. Jan also advocates for
people who, due to chemical dependency, are involved in the criminal justice system, and she supports treatment in lieu of incarceration. She has
worked with the court system by providing LADC assessments.
For ten years, Jan
held a number of
positions for Phoenix House's Keene Center, including Coordinator of the
Cheshire Academy and as a clinical social worker for the MATI program
for teens.
After growing up in Keene, Jan graduated from Columbia University in New
York City. Once she returned to the Keene area, she earned her MSW from
the University of Connecticut School of Social Work. She has supervised
master's-level interns from Antioch University since 1995 and from the University of New Hampshire School of Social Work since 2000. Jan also
serves as an adjunct professor at Keene State College, teaching Addiction
Counseling and Case Management to undergraduates.
